Tuatara Brewing Company was named Champion New Zealand Brewery at the Brewers Guild of New Zealand 2016 Beer Awards.
This was the second time the brewery had picked up the top award, also coming up trumps in 2008. Tuatara collected three out of 14 category trophies, including Best New Zealand Lager (Mot Eureka), Best Pale Ale (Sauvinova) and Best Wheat and Other Grain (Weiz Guy) presented by Beer & Brewer.
Champion Manufacturer went to Steam Brewing and Champion International Brewery went to Boston Beer Company.
Other big winners on the night included Moa Brewing Company for Best European Ale (Moa St Josephs) and Best Packaging (Moa NZ Gold Ale 375ml), as well as Zeffer Cider Co. for Best Cider or Perry (Cidre Demi-Sec) and Best Fruit or Flavoured Cider or Perry (Apple Crumble Cider).
Celebrating its 10th year, the Brewers Guild awards saw 946 beers from 98 breweries entered across 14 beer categories.
A total of 88 New Zealand breweries were entered in the awards, along with 10 breweries from Australia, Germany and the United States.
