The inaugural Time Out Sydney Pub Awards were held this week, with the best in the pub scene taking out gongs across nine categories, from Pub of the Year to the most Family-Friendly watering hole.
Just shy of 300 people turned out for the awards, held on the rooftop of theGlenmore Hotel in The Rocks, to raise a well-deserved glass to the best of the Sydney pub scene.
It was a good night for Rozelle’sTheWelcome Hotel, which took out Pub of the Year and the Best Pub Food gong. Pyrmont’sQuarrymans Hotel cemented its craft beer reputation, winning the gong for Best Beer List for its spectacular range of craft beers on tap.
Another double winner waspub operatorRay Reilly, who was named Publican of the Year and was also presented withthe Family-Friendly Award forThe Henson, a pub thatvalues inclusivity and caters to those with small humans in tow.
The Vic in Enmore won for Best Entertainment, while theMinskys Hotel in Cremorne was recognised for its facelift, winning the Revival Award for an excellent revamp that brought new life to an old venue.
To reward years of consistent service the Legend Award went to Darlinghurst’s Green Park Hotel, while the good people of Sydney voted theBalmain Hotel as the People’s Choice Award.
“Time Out has long flown the flag for excellent bars and restaurants in Sydney, but we thought it was high time we acknowledged the truly excellent pubs that are an essential part of the social fabric of this city,” says Time Out Sydney’s Pubs Editor Emily Lloyd-Tait.
“Tonight was all about celebrating the staunch love Sydneysiders have for their local watering holes.”
