With the sale of the Sydney Brewhouse (nee the Macquarie Hotel) the Sydney Brewery has found a new home a couple of hours north in Newcastle.
With plans for a bigger and better brewery located in the picturesque foreshore area, Head Brewer Michael Capaldo says he is excited about the move and the new brewery.
“Newcastle is a great area for craft beer,” he says. “So we’re really positive about the move.”
Capaldo also confirmed that the brewery will be keeping its current branding as the Sydney Brewery – the re-brand from the original Schwartz name was only recently completed – and will continue to focus on the Sydney market. The brand’s custom-built cidery – potentially the first in the country to not involve beer or wine in any form – is set to open in World Square in Sydney and will maintain the brand’s presence in the city.
“We’re still focused on Sydney but we’re looking forward to expanding into a new market,” Capaldo confirms.
While a DA has been submitted for the new brewery, the brand is still waiting for approval to press ahead with development.
