One of Melbourne’s multi-level drinking and dining destinations, The Crafty Squire, will close its doors on Tuesday 10 September as the venue welcomes a major revamp.
The space currently houses a microbrewery, multiple bars, a restaurant and rooftop terrace, with a new concept expected to revitalise the venue across all levels while embracing its CBD heritage.
Speaking to Beer & Brewer about the decision to undertake a renovation at the much-loved pub, Laurie Gallagher, Venue Manager, said: “There is a lot of development happening around Melbourne’s CBD at the moment, so it felt like a good opportunity to be a part of this.
“The building itself has been standing for over 150 years, we want to ensure that we are investing in this venue so it can continue to provide a great customer experience for decades to come.”
The first stage of the transformation will be unveiled in summer, with the team promising that loyal regulars and long-time customers will be able to enjoy more of what they already love from the pub, with the addition of some new experiences and spaces.
“The renovation will amplify the existing pub under a new concept. The multi-level drinking and dining destination will be packed with new experiences and spaces whilst maintaining its heritage,” Gallagher added.
At the heart of The Crafty Squire, patrons will find the only working microbrewery in Melbourne’s CBD, a space where special and seasonal beers are brewed. For the time being, the microbrewery will also remain closed as the full venue undergoes a makeover.
Teasing what’s to come, Gallagher said: “There is something exciting brewing downstairs which we will be able to reveal in the coming months but for now, the entire venue is closed.”
