The much anticipated 2017 Stone Beer from Stone & Wood was officially launched at the annual Stone Festival on 11 June, and is now available nationally.
Brewed for when the days are short and the nights are cold, the winter seasonal honours the ancient techniques of brewing; by adding wood fired stones to the kettle to rouse the boil and intensify the malt characters.
Dark and robust, the 2017 Stone Beer uses six malts, including Simpsons Marris Otter, Weyerman Caramunich 2, Weyermann Carafa special 1, to give it a roasted caramel aroma that’s balanced with a warming, full-bodied cocoa flavour.
The 2017 Stone Beer is 6.5% ABV and described as “a robust porter… dark, warming with every malty mouthful”.
In May 2016, Stone & Wood put some Stone Beer into a handful of Lark whisky barrels to age, creating a 9% ABV barrel aged version, which is also available now.
