Coinciding with International IPA Day on 1 August, Pirate Life has released its latest Hero Hop series beer, Belma IPA.
Since its foundation in 2014, Pirate Life has brewed dozens of IPAs and netted its fair share of awards for the style. Its first ever beer release, an 8.8 per cent Imperial IPA, made it onto the GABS Hottest 100 in 2015, just 10 months after it hit the market.
Given the importance of IPAs to Pirate Life, co-founder, Jack Cameron, is pleased with the timing of the release.
“We’re stoked to be dropping Belma IPA on International IPA Day this year. There’s no doubt about it, India Pale Ales are synonymous with the Pirate Life brand,” he said.
Belma IPA heroes a unique American hop, which Cameron said reflects Pirate Life’s brand identity.
“Belma IPA showcases a really cool hop variety out of the US, Belma. Unlike most hops, which are developed through international breeding programs, it was discovered growing roadside near Puterbaugh Farms in the Yakima Valley.
“We’re untamed by nature, so it’s really a perfect fit. You’ll get a bunch of strawberry and stone fruit characters, balanced bitterness, and a good lick of resin, too. Exactly what you’d expect from a solid IPA,” he said.
Belma IPA is available now at Pirate Life’s Port Adelaide and Melbourne venues, with pints for schooners pricing on the full tapped range.
