For the third year running, Newtown locals Young Henrys Brewery and the Courthouse Hotel, affectionately known as The Courty, are welcoming summer with the return of the Newtown Street Party.
Set to take place on Saturday 7 December, Newtown Street Party is a free event loaded with live music, local brews and food, hosted on Eliza Street and pouring into the beer garden at The Courty.
Anne Kessler, General Manager of The Courty, says: “The Young Henrys team will agree with me when I say we bloody love this neighbourhood just as much as we love live music, tinnies, and good food.
“This is the Newtown Street Party’s third year running and every year the turnout, good vibes and community spirit just blows us away and drives us to make the next year even bigger and better. What a start to summer.”
Building on a friendship that began in 2012 when The Courty became the first pub to pour Young Henrys now flagship beer, Newtowner, the third year of the Newtown Street Party is expected to draw a crowd of 5000 throughout the day.
Now celebrating its 13th birthday, Newtowner will be one of many local craft beers on offer at the event, with pop-up bars and food stalls dotted alongside Eliza Street in accompaniment to food available at The Courty, The Bank Hotel and Public House Petersham.
Patrons can expect a stacked live music line up, bringing together local Aussie talent on an outdoor stage spanning everything from indie and rock to soul and alt-country. Local musicians Caitlin Hartnett and the Pony Boys will headline the event, with psychedelic duo Velvet Trip also locked in to perform, along with a DJ set by the OG Red Wiggle Murray Cook, and many more.
Oscar McMahon, Co-founder of Young Henrys added: “We’re bloody proud to be bringing Newtown Street Party back with its biggest lineup yet. It’s all about bringing people together – good mates, great music, and cold beers right in the heart of our backyard, with our longtime mates, The Courty.”
Running from 1pm through to 8pm on Saturday 7 December, donations will be accepted on the door, going directly to the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre.
