Modus Operandi has welcomed the first new addition to its core portfolio in two years, Modus Hazy, which seeks to provide a fresh take on the popular hazy category.
Believing that the current hazy beers on the market lacked flavour and punch, Modus has spent the past six months blind tasting multiple batches of hazy beer to fine-tune the recipe for this latest release. The final product reflects the Modus mantra of beer first, no shortcuts.
Modus co-founder Jaz Wearin said that amid a difficult period for craft brewers, new releases have to be exceptional to stand out.
“We don’t take adding to our Modus Beer core range lightly – the last one was in 2022 – and in the current market a core range beer has to be really outstanding to stand out, or you have to have one hell of a marketing budget. This is a hazy, but we are wanting to present to the market something evolved,” she said.
Tasting notes describe fruity and tangy aromas and layers of fresh hazy flavours on the palette.
“You can taste it in the liquid, a bigger mouthfeel, fresh on the nose, that scratch that is itched by a really great balanced hazy. And yes, we are tooting our own horn, which I am usually not too comfortable doing, but there has been an incredible amount of effort that has gone into this beer to bring a hazy that is different, that is evolved, that is for the new beer drinker,” Wearin said.
The packaging was also carefully considered, following extensive consultation with team members and consumers. The resulting design is fresh and unpretentious, inviting in the new beer drinker.
Directed towards both beer drinkers and those on-the-fence about the category, Modus Hazy offers a product for consumers looking for a new, flavour-forward hazy.
