Last week, Granite Belt Brewery owners Geoff and Dee Davenport invited Toowoomba’s 4GR radio breakfast show hosts to come and brew their very own beer.
As winter approaches, Geoff Davenport focused his efforts on creating a Smokey Rauchbier to compliment the cold Granite Belt climate. Well acquainted with the fact that Lee and Lizzy are keen brewers and drinkers, Davenport asked the locally renowned duo if they would be interested in staying overnight at the brewery on Thursday evening in order to start brewing on air the following morning.
The DJs were delighted and, so, they arrived on the Thursday afternoon, ready to mill the grain and boil the water in preparation for their live-to-air brew session the next day.
Broadcasting fromHappy Valley Retreat’s cabin 17, Lee and Lizzy ran a comp to name the brew, with the winner coming up with Lee and Lizzy’s Old Smokey.
During the program, both Lee and Lizzy took turns mashing in, and, before departing for Toowoomba, added the hops to the brew.
Lee and Lizzy will be back at Granite Belt in May to taste their brew.
