Set to take place from Saturday 21 September to Sunday 6 October, Oktoberfest is just around the corner, and Heads of Noosa Brewing Co is celebrating this year’s festival with the release of its limited edition Helles German Lager.
Staying true to the time-honoured traditions enacted in Bavaria in 1516, Helles German Lager has been brewed under The Reinheitsgebot, which translates to Purity Law and is viewed as an assurance of quality beer drinkers worldwide.
The Purity Law was introduced to restrict the ingredients in beer to water, barley malt, hops and yeast, and almost 500 years later still forms the basis for laws governing beer production in Germany.
Heads of Noosa is no stranger to a limited release brew, and according to Co-Founder and Head Brewer Lance Masterton, the Helles German Lager has been on his wish list for quite some time.
“It’s been a beer we’ve wanted to make since spending time with so many great brewers in Germany. It’s the ultimate test of brewing and processes. With all the character coming from the malts, and subtle hop additions only playing a supporting role, a very clean yeast profile is required and this is where only a great fermentation process will do,” said Lance.
This limited-edition release is a smooth pale German lager, with tasting notes that describe a “slight malt sweetness, with a clean gold hue and a soft, dry finish.” Subtle hops and restrained bitterness result in a balanced, refreshing and easy-drinking beer.
At five per cent ABV, Helles German Lager is Heads of Noosa’s seventh limited release brew since the unveiling of Baltic Porter in May 2022.
For a limited time only, Helles German Lager can be enjoyed alongside Heads of Noosa’s core range, consisting of Japanese Style Lager, Lager, Amber Lager and Black Japanese Lager.
