First reported by Beer & Brewer a few weeks back, Gage Roads have finally released their Easter Limited Release beer – an Abby-inspired Chocolate Ale.
Named Abstinence, the brew is designed to be more than a little tempting for those giving something up for Lent according to Aaron Heary, General Manager Operations.
“We wanted to offer an extra bit of temptation to everyone who thought
they might get away without indulging in a bit of chocolate this
Easter,” he says.
Compared to the robust style of their other 2013 release – The Convict – Heary says that traditional Belgian Dubbel-style Ale, with an Easter-inspired chocolate twist, is a less more aggressive.
“The Convict was a big, in your face beer,” explained Heary. “Abstinence is a lot more subtle; it’s the little notes of phenols, esters, and chocolate that makes it great.”
According to the tasting notes, the brew has fruity esters and notes of dry spice that go well with the Ghanaian chocolate, from Gabriel Chocolate in Margaret River, that was chosen to complete the brew.
“The brew team got a real kick out of working with Gabriel Chocolate on this one,” said Heary, “They make fantastic chocolate. Everything is hand done, from bean to bar. You can taste the passion in their product and this beer is all the better for it”.
Abstinence Belgian Dubbel Chocolate Ale is on-shelf now.
