Dave Mullins has been announced as the head brewer at Tiny Mountain Brewery, Malt Shovel’s new Townsville craft brewery.
Mullins has worked at Malt Shovel and Lion for 10 years, spending time at XXXX, Tooheys and Malt Shovel.
“As our production brewer in Sydney, Dave was a key part of the Malt Shovel gold medal-winning team in the 2018 World Beer Cup, and took home a gold, silver and bronze in the 2018 Australian International Beer Awards,” says Chris Sheehan from Malt Shovel’s Eumundi Brewery.
“Dave is an experience and innovative brewer who will create exceptional beers, and we are delighted to have him head up brewing here in north Queensland.”
Tiny Mountain is still undergoing construction and is expected to open in South Townsville in December. Mullins has already moved with his family from Camperdown in Sydney to the north Queensland town.
“As a family we are excited to have made the move to Townsville,” Mullins explains. “My dad grew up in the Burdekin and my Mum grew up in Cairns so I know this is a perfect part of the world to raise a family.
“I started my brewing career as a home brewer, so I am keen to get to know some of the local home brewers and beer lovers here, especially the ones who have helped us with taste testing.
“I look forward to working with local clubs and hotels to create a unique range of refreshing beers for North and Far North Queensland, that will be available fresh from the tanks in the Tiny Mountain Brewery and wholesale.
“Our venue will be a family friendly place where people can come to enjoy our well-crafted beers brewed on site and play games in the beer garden.
“I’ve always enjoyed the history and stories behind beer and sharing my passion for brewing with our customers.”
