As we get set to celebrate the most special of occasions, International Beer Day tomorrow (7 August), we look at what you should fill your glass with and where to honour the day in style.
“Beer! The beer that one person chooses to celebrate this great day will be different to the beer another person chooses!” Kirrily Waldhorn, aka Beer Diva, told Beer & Brewer.
“My recommendation would be to seek out one of the many wonderful Australian brewed beers, ideally from your local region. Find a glass, pour your beer and celebrate the fact that we are nearing our record number of breweries in Australia and that our brewers are highly awarded and well-respected on the international beer stage!”
Waldhorn will be discussing the wonders of beer at the Sydney Good Food & Wine Show tomorrow through to Sunday at the Sydney Showground in Homebush.
“My pick for a wintery International Beer Day would be a roast rack of lamb with sweet potato paired to an English Special Bitter. Add a tamarind glaze to the lamb and it would work perfectly with an American IPA,” Waldhorn said.
Tomorrow from 12pm, The Local Taphouses in Sydney and Melbourne will be marking the day with 20 beers on tap from 20 different countries.
Beer lovers can take a virtual trip to the UK with Beavertown (England), Brewdog (Scotland) and Guinness (Ireland), before venturing into mainland Europe; Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Italy.
Closer to home, 8 Wired represent New Zealand and Feral Brewing (WA) with Hop Hog, winner of Australia’s top 100 craft beer poll. The mighty Stone Brewing from The States and Du De Ciel from Canada are also coming to the party.
For something a little fancy, Moo Brew will be unveiling the first look at the brewery’s coveted 2015 seasonal stout at a five course degustation evening at Beer DeLuxe, Federation Square at 7pm. The dinner pays homage to Moo Brew’s seasonal vintage stout beers, with each course matched to a different vintage 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and the unveil of 2015.
With the 2015 Moo Brew Stout not yet released to the public, is there any better way to celebrate International Beer Day? We think not.
