Voting opens tomorrow (October 1) in the second ever GABS Can Design Awards which celebrate packaging design in the Australian craft beer industry.
In an increase on the 120-plus entries for the inaugural event last year, over 140 breweries have put a single can design forward in the 2021 competition. In a statement, the organisers said “the creativity has once again exceeded all expectations… Think mythology, skeletons, cult classics, sports and everything in between! These adventurous and unique themes have inspired designers and produced some of the country’s best retail packaging!”.
Everyone that votes for their three favourite can designs will be entered into a draw to win a share of a $10,000 prize pool which includes vouchers from BoozeBud and tickets to the next GABS Festival season.
Vote here from October 1. Votes close October 10.
The top 10 public voted designs will then go before a panel of industry, brand and design experts and the winner will be announced October 22. The brewery behind the winning design will receive a set of printing plates from the awards presenting partner, Orora, valued at $3,000 with an additional $5,000 worth of prizes from Opal Specialty Packaging shared amongst the Top 10. For the first time GABS will also reward the designer behind the winning can with $1,000 in cash and a 12 month business directory subscription from Brews News.
Last year’s winner was Adelaide’s Little Bang Brewing, and designer Matt O’Connor, with their Face Inverter Citrus Super Sour label. Second place went to Melbourne’s Moon Dog Brewery and designer Loren Tanis for their The Future Is Bright Solar Powered IPA. Third prize was awarded to Melbourne’s Fixation Brewing Co and designer Jase Harper for their You’re On Mute West Coast Double IPA.
