Free beer. Those two little words can work wonders in getting people’s attention, and one small business’ operation manager is hoping that they will help him attract much needed staff to the country. Dion Biggs, of Eric Scott Electrical and Air Conditioning Services, says that Moree not only has trouble attracting trades people but also keeping them from the lure of the mines and the potential to earn big money there.
So his solution to attract staff is simple: successful job applicants will receive free beer for a year – a case a week to be exact.
Biggs makes no secret of the fact that he was inspired by the story of Cairns man ____ who was offering free beer for a year to anyone who would give his son an apprenticeship. The idea is meant to give the company a hook to attract attention to their ad in all the competition.
Potential applicants need to be fully qualified electricians over 18 years of age and “looking for a change”. The salary on offer will be between $20 to $50 per hour (commensurate to experience) and the successful applicant will receive one carton of beer per week (with a pre-determined price).
