Brewers of all sizes from around Australia are encouraged to enter the inaugural Royal Adelaide Beer Show, part of the 2011 Royal Adelaide Show.
Show marketing manager Michelle Hocking said the competition would give local breweries a chance to test their beers against some of the best in Australia, including South Australia’s own Coopers.
“The competition has several categories, encompassing lagers, ales, stouts, reduced alcohol beers and wheat beer,” she said.
“Exhibits will be judged from both a technical and consumer appreciation perspective, taking into consideration the beer’s appearance, aroma, flavour and overall impression.
“Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded, and gold medal winning beers will be considered for a trophy.”
Ms Hocking said the introduction of a beer competition at the Royal Adelaide Show – which attracts over 500,000 punters each year – was a natural progression, with the event placing a stronger emphasis on food and wine experiences in recent years.
“With the emergence of many boutique breweries in recent years and a move toward beer and food matching, we’re expecting a huge amount of public interest in the Beer Competition,” she said.
“The competition will also provide an opportunity for smaller breweries to reach new markets here and interstate.”
Entries for the 2011 Royal Adelaide Beer Show close on June 10, with judging scheduled for July 11-14.
Winners to be announced at the Beer Awards on July 15, for entry details visit www.theshow.com.au or contact competition secretary, Ms Dee Rowlands 08 8210 5223.
