Auckland’s newest oldest gastropub is turning the tables on
customers and inviting them to name their newest craft brew with the winner to
have their own name printed on the beer’s label.

Traditionally the brewer
develops the beer and during the tasting process designs its name. This time,
the customer decides. “We find people enjoy describing the taste experience of
our craft beers, so we’re giving them the chance to name the fifth in our
Winter Series,” says The Brewery Britomart’s co-owner and brewer, Laurence. “This
beer’s chocolate malt and roasted malt characteristics should create some
really interesting name suggestions,” says Laurence.

The entries will be judged by
a team of local beer enthusiasts including members from the Society of Beer
Advocates (SOBA).

The winning name will join the
Winter series: Holy Smoke, Double Dutch, Sublime and Monk’s Hip Hop.

In June, Monk’s Hip Hop was
judged the most popular beer by attendees at the first City of Ales Festival. Details of the competition and
how to enter are on the website.
