Greg Ramsay, from the relatively unheard of New Zealand Whisky Collection, compared his company to a minnow, when facing up to the internationally renowned brands in the Test Match series.
“This remarkable victory puts whisky makers the world over on notice that New Zealand is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to producing exquisite drams,” he says.
The series conclusion saw the New Zealand Whisky Collection clash with England’s St George’s distillery range, emerging victious with a scoreline of 2-1.
Leading UK whisky writer Dominic Roskrow, who organised the Wales and England battles, said the results were irrefutable.
”What this event shows beyond all doubt is that New Zealand has successfully made its case as a leading player in the world of new world whisky,” he says.
The New Zealand Whisky Collection is extremely rare, comprising of whiskies from a distillery no longer in production. It is now being released around the world to such huge acclaim that plans are afoot to start production again.
