The homebrewing arm of the much loved Liberty Brewing is to close, with the website stating “health reasons” as the main cause.
Founded in 2006 by Stu McKinlay and Brendon
Mackenzie – Yeastie Boysand
Revolution Brewing respectively – the aim was for the brewers to have access to cheap, quality homebrewing supplies, a discount they passed on to their loyal customers. The business was then taken over by Joseph Wood, a keen brewer who has also gone on to win awards for his brews, producing such beers as the impossible MMMMoMMftCHv3 Barleywine (Mikes Manically
Mad Mixture of Malted Meal featuring the C Hops version 3) and the better known Yakima Monster.
Word is that Wood will be continuing to produce his beers despite the closure of the homebrewing arm of the business. For those looking for a bargain, the stock will be sold at a discount until finished.
