Batch bar small

Crowds enjoying a beer at Batch Brewing Company

Less than a year since opening, Batch Brewing Company in Sydney’s inner western suburb of Marrickville, is set to double its production capacity.

The brainchild of two American expats Andrew Fineran and Christopher Sidwa, Batch Brewing Company focuses on brewing frequent small batches, with only one brew, an American Pale Ale, on regular production.

“Our small batch size allows us to take risks on ingredients and processes to ensure we’re constantly evolving the offering at thetasting room and your local pub or bottle-shop,” said Sidwa.

“Our newly-installed tanks mean we’ll be brewing more often, but they don’t change the batch size (the brew house remains the same) so all the freshness and variety will remain, or perhaps increase!”

The brewery has developed strong local community ties with its feature of unique brews changing constantly allowing for collaborations with local businesses. Examples of these include a collaboration with Campos coffee in Marrickville, which is currently on tap as ‘Campos Milk Stout’, and a previous ‘WheatTEA’, which was concocted with loose-tea specialist T Totaler in Newtown.

“Our American Pale Ale, and seasonals like Alice Wheat Ale, will be brewed intoour double batch fermentersso we can meet demand. And our row of single batch fermenters will enable us to continue to experiment, and to produce some traditional lagers and higher ABV beers that require a longer maturation time,” said Sidwa.

The brewery’s sense of community is evident in its on-premise tasting room where customers sample beers and give feedback, in turn informing how the next batch tastes. Recently enjoying a bit of a facelift, the tasting room area will be home to ‘Batch Sessions’ next month where indie/alternative acts will entertain the crowd.

The food offerings also have a local flavour. With no room for an onsite kitchen the brewery has been rotating through local food vendors such as; Burnt End – Central Texas BBQ, the Milk Crate Kitchen, Nighthawk Diner, and has engaged Marrickville’s Nom Pizzaasa late night food supplier.
