Three-time GABS Hottest 100 Australian Craft Beer winning brewery, Mountain Culture, has collaborated with award-winning venue operator Applejack to create a limited-edition beer for Applejack venues.
Jack Of All Haze is described as “a refreshing, citrus-forward hazy beer that’s all about fun, sessionability and great flavour”. The beer launches on Monday, 10 February, and will be available at all Applejack venues, including Forrester’s, Taphouse, Rafi Urbnsurf, Sandy’s, Rafi North Sydney, Bopp & Tone, The Botanist, SoCal and The Butler.
Crafted with Citra, Idaho 7, and Amarillo hops, this limited-edition beer is packed with juicy, orange citrus notes – for a beer that’s easy on the palate yet bursting with flavour.
Pat Thiering, Innovation & Brand Manager at Mountain Culture, said: “We’ve been working with the legends at Applejack for years. The synergy is undeniable, and together we’ve created something truly special, led by the Applejack team for their venues.”
Applejack’s Group Beverage Manager, Donovan Binks, added: “I first had a Mountain Culture beer in 2020 and was hooked instantly. Fast forward to now, and here we are – after a fantastic 2024 together, Jack Of All Haze is finally ready to pour.
“It’s super sessionable, so you can sip it all day long – though I’d love to enjoy one surfside at Sandy’s with those perfect blue waves.”
Applejack shared a Q&A they had with Thiering, who runs – Mountain Culture’s limited release program – about the beer and the collaboration. See below:
Q. What sparked the collaboration between Mountain Culture and Applejack?
A. We’ve been working with the legends at Applejack for a few years now, there’s so much synergy between the two businesses. We’re really aligned in our shared vision, so we wanted to make something truly special together, led by the AJ team for their venues.
Q. How did you decide on the flavours?
A. We had a couple of great chats with the Applejack crew about the space in their tap lineup that they wanted to collab to fill, and we quickly came to the agreement that the perfect beer would be something that all of the signature haze and juiciness of Mountain Culture beers but was also sessionable and something their patrons could enjoy throughout the afternoon.
Q. Can you tell us a bit about the process that went into brewing the beer?
A. We had the Applejack team up to our Katoomba brewpub for a fun and interactive brew day. After mashing in we sat down with our entire line up of hops and had a sniff as a group. The group then voted on a shortlist of hops that stood out and we started piecing together the flavour. What was clear is that we were all loving the citrus profile, particularly the orange notes. As a result, we chose a mix of Citra, Idaho 7 and Amarillo hops to give the beer a likeness to freshly squeezed orange juice.
Q. How do you recommend enjoying this beer?
A. We designed this beer to be enjoyed anytime and to be enjoyed schooner after schooner. But I bet it’s going to taste pretty great after a surf.
