For the fourth year running, Young Henrys is offering its International Women’s Day Brewing Scholarship, in partnership with TAFE NSW and Blundstone Australia.
The scholarship aims to give more women and non-binary individuals access to the brewing industry through its support packages. Any individual who identifies as female or non-binary and enrolls in the Certificate III Food Processing and Micro Brewing Course (Brewing) at TAFE NSW will qualify.
Every female or non-binary brewer enrolling in the course will receive:
- Quarterly mentoring sessions with Young Henrys’ Head Brewer Jesse Searls and Head of Lab Rene Delmas.
- A pair of sturdy Blundstone boots, made for the rigors of the brewery floor.
- A bundle of Young Henrys goodies, including a t-shirt, hat, key ring and tote—a token of belonging to the brewing community.
- Course textbooks covered, easing the financial load so participants can focus on learning and growing.
The program comes from a Young Henrys belief that the beer industry is richer and more vibrant when it reflects the diversity of its communities. The Brewing Scholarship program is a celebration of those who want to make their mark in brewing.
Unlike previous years where there was one winning scholar, Young Henrys has shown its commitment to fostering a diverse brewing industry by extending its support package to all eligible entrants.
Liz Bentley, Partnerships and Communications Manager at Young Henrys, says: “We’ve had a really incredible response from the industry itself, it’s something we’re super proud to talk about with other businesses too. Even in its fourth year though, we’ve found the number of female and non-binary people enrolling is still lower than we’d like, which is why this year, we’ve shifted the offering.
“In 2025, every female and non-binary brewer who enrols in the course will be eligible to get the Young Henrys support package, not just the one lucky winner. This shift will hopefully encourage more enrollments, especially those who might’ve been on the fence, which is the main goal at the end of the day.”
By supporting both women and non-binary individuals, the initiative aims to create long-term opportunities and build an inclusive industry where everyone can thrive. One element of this strategy is raising awareness of the diverse career pathways that exist in the brewing industry and celebrating the courage it takes to break into new territory.
“We really wanted to showcase that joining the brewing industry doesn’t necessarily just mean shoveling spent grain on the brew floor – whether it’s brewing beer or quality control in the lab, there’s a tonne of cool career pathways that the brewing industry offers, which hopefully encourages a more diverse range of people to take the leap,” says Bentley.
Any women and non-binary individuals who have enrolled in the Certificate III Food Processing and Micro Brewing Course (Brewing) course at TAFE NSW can apply for the support package on the Young Henrys website.
Applications close 1 March.
