The Co-Founder of Young Henry’s, Richard Adamson, has won the 2024 Beer & Brewer Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award, with judges recognising his significant contribution to Australia’s beer industry.

In addition, the judges highlighted the work that Adamson continues to do with his TAFE brewing courses and helping to bring through the next generation of Australian brewers.

Judge comments included:

  • When someone puts everything they have into the growth of their passion nothing can stop them. Richard does this in so many ways it’s hard to imagine what our beer industry would look like without the time, dedication and persistence he has led with over the years.
  • Richard is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of brewers, teaching at TAFE and passing on his extensive knowledge and passion for brewing. His commitment to education ensures that the industry continues to grow with skilled, knowledgeable professionals.
  • Richard has taught countless brewing students and spearheaded brewing education in the country and led to the development and implication of TAFE NSW’s important courses, including the recent launch of the country’s first IV in Brewing.
  • A true support for many, a future thinker, ensuring the success of the next generation, and advocate for our cause, Richard is a leader in every sense of the word.
  • As the co-founder of Young Henry’s, Richard has helped shape the craft beer landscape, not only through innovation in brewing but also through his leadership in sustainability and community involvement.
  • At Young Henry’s, Richard spearheaded the Sustainability Project in collaboration with the University of Technology Sydney, driving research and innovation aimed at reducing the brewery’s environmental impact and promoting sustainability within the beer industry.
  • Beyond his involvement in beer, Richard spends an incredible amount of his time supporting other breweries and future brewers. This includes his previous leadership of the IBA, his work lobbying for tax change and his more localised advocacy through the Inner West Brewers Association.
  • Richard Adamson has been a pioneer and influential figure in the Australian beer industry, making significant contributions both locally and nationally.
  • Richard Adamson is a deserving candidate for the Lifetime Achievement Award because his contributions have been instrumental in advancing craft beer culture in Australia.
