If ever there was an Australian venue destined to win a ‘best brewery experience’ award it is Moon Dog World Preston, where a “theme park for adults” takes the brewery experience to an all-new level.
Despite only opening in September 2019, and then closed for huge swathes of 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions, the sprawling brewpub, that features 72 taps, a lagoon, a waterfall, a tiki bar, and so much more, is now widely loved as one of the most ambitious and exciting ventures ever to hit the Australian beer and brewing scene.
“It’s a real honour to be named the winner of this award and its name, the ‘best brewery experience’, hits the nail on the head of what we were trying to do,” co-founder Karl van Buuren said.
“We wanted to open it up to as wide an audience as possible, to come and experience a brewery that represents what Moon Dog is all about. From the outset we wanted to make it less of a pub and more of an experience, so people can come here and have an experience in multiple different ways.
“We aimed big and it’s paid off.
“Starting this and conceiving this was all about our brand. From day one our brand has always been about having fun, being inclusive and providing the ability for anyone, craft beer drinker or not, to come in and enjoy what we’re trying to do – and that is be experimental, not take ourselves too seriously but provide a high quality product and a high quality experience.”
All things going to plan Moon Dog World Preston remains open to the public throughout Summer, and many Summers beyond, and the staff that were let go during the lockdown are all back on deck in this tropical oasis. And if there is to be any sort of silver lining for the Moon Dog team in what has been a tough year, is that because of COVID-19 the masses weren’t able to experience their brewery experience and now perhaps they can.
