Get ready, Sydney Craft Beer Week is (almost) here!

Sydney Craft Beer Week (SCBW) kicks off tomorrow night (21 Oct) with its much-anticipated SCBW Opening Gala at the Giant Dwarf Theatre in Redfern.

The Gala is the first of more than 100 events across 75 different venues to be held over the next 10 days, from axe throwing competitions and sausage making classes, to beer guzzling history lessons.

“This is our biggest year ever. More events, more tickets sold, MORE BEER. Our event holders have doubled down and the quality of the events on offer are staggering,” SCBW director Joel Connolly told Beer & Brewer.

“We have everything from bike rides, to barrel aged beers and Belgian brunches.”

For the first time, the organisers are launching the Sydney Craft Beer Awards this year (28 Oct), which will recognise the best of beers, brewers and those behind the scenes who make the craft beer scene in Sydney as rich and vibrant as it is today.

“We really wanted to celebrate the unsung heroes. It’s easy to give three cheers for the best IPA, but what about the best craft beer personality? Or the best representative or a brand? Or even label design?” Connolly explained.

“This is our chance to pull everyone together at the end of the festival, stop, take a breath and feel good about everything the craft industry has been able to achieve in a very short amount of time.”

With so many events and so little time, what are the top five events not to miss?

“Obviously our Gala event!” Connolly said.

“The Frankie’s Pizza Collaboration Coup, Down and Dirty MTB (bike ride, beer drinking), A Heavenly Pairing – Beer and Cheese (Local Taphouse), Tinnie Table Tennis 2 at The Welcome Hotel and Platinum Liquor & Mornington Peninsula Brewery Present Dogtown & Z-Boys.”
