In celebration of the German Purity Law, Reinheitsgebot, turning 500 next month Weihenstephan is launching a kellerbier called Weihenstephaner 1516.
The unfiltered kellerbier will be available in Australia for the 23 April anniversary of the law, which was passed in 1516 and limits the ingredients in beer to water, hops and barley.
The law was signed 35 miles north of Weihenstephan, so it is apt the German brewery is marking the anniversary with a special release beer.
Weihenstephaner 1516 has been crafted with local ingredients, is amber in colour and has a mild flavour profile with some caramel and hints of spice.
